U.S. external debt (shown here) stands at about 1x GDP...manageable. But the trend is bad. Threatening default didn't help, either.

Wouldn't you know? I checked a file folder I found behind the sofa and lo and behold I completely forgot that I hold 8.7 trillion in U.S. Treasuries. I feel like I really should call someone about this.
