Teraoka

Teraoka is a contemporary Japanese-American artist who sources from these guys, yet paints about AIDs and email- I met him very briefly at an opening once. An amazing, serious, hilarious artist.

Thanks for the kind comments (and the very fine Dr. and Madame X and X-lings XMAS gift, by the way).

You can always start with the creature on page 155 of the January 2005 Art in America, who is about to set America en fuego.

I'll interweb about a bit for links. A great book on contemporary work is Art Tomorrow, by Edward Lucie-Smith, which sort of starts from Koons and goes on, which is a great relief after years of books ending with that cash-diseased sleazelog. I am fond of this book because of it's sensible positioning of painting as a media that handled well produces art, good contemporary curation, and its regard of the visual as a primary element in art. (Don't laugh. It's has been a big issue, although perhaps less so recently.)
