Let me also add that as a Californian, I envy Maine it's ex-governor.
I eventually talked my insurance company into upping the claim on my 37mpg car, which meant that the ten year-old subcompact only lost 50 percent of its original price. Last year's SUVs have lost 50 percent of their price.
It's been an interesting month - I haven't driven and life is pretty good, until I have to commute again. I've walked and biked a lot more- lost a little weight, met more people, noticed that my car is a form of portable privacy- and isolation.
