Discard your stale, old software

Did you know that as software gets older it gets ratty and stale and simply can't be fixed? Who knew? Microsoft explains this phenomenon here.

Oh, and since the Linux kernel is even older than XP, I suggest you be very careful of your Linux software. It could explode any minute!

Could this be just one of the reasons I so love my Mac?

I miss the days when a grad student, using only Debug, could write a better personal computer OS than anything commercially available, on a single Sunday afternoon. I know for a fact the Sum of All Monkeys did this on several occasions.

I think Zeta, no longer commercially available, was the last of the Mohicans in this regard, although Plan 9 has its adherents.

You can get your Zeta wallpaper here, as you prepare for a soulless future of cloud computing, anticipatory algorithms, and viral infotainment.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go learn how to use Bash, since Zeta won't run the Thompson Shell, the pretty little garden I grew up in.
