Socialists of the Willing

I was interviewed for a local cable show today on the Patriot Act (you know it was a minor TV appearance when you have to quote yourself like this.) But I got one good line out:

Apparantly, the FBI even seems to be monitoring Socialists. I don't know what they're afraid of- universal health care?

Thank you. I'll be here saving American democracy all week.

Using the weak to exploit the weak?! What the.....!?!? Are you some sort of Marxist?

Long ago TV Judge Wapner had a case before him, involving a Motel manager suing a poor guest who had unknowingly run up about $85 in local phone calls, not realizing that the motel was charging her about $5 a call. The manager made demands politely, pointed to a photo of a grubby sign, and generally confirmed his pinched-face, greasy, weasly demeanor. After what happened next I actually felt a little sorry for him.

Wapner lost it.

"Sir, I have stayed in some of the finest hotels, all around the world, that has been my great privilege and pleasure. But in all these places, sir, I have never, never seen such outrageous prices, such shameless, lying, greedy gouging of the customer, and in this case like many it is a young woman who has very little to begin with. Why is it, Sir, that every time this type of case comes before me, it is some grubby little place owned by a wealthy man reaming people who have nothing, soaking them for his own miserable, flint-hearted profiteering. Why is that, Sir!?"

The little manager, stunned, tried to answer.

"I...I...I don't know why the Rich exploit the poor, sir."
