Was There Any Part of This That Was Not a Lie?
Not a great surprise, but President W's spontaneous and unrehearsed talk with soldiers in Iraq was neither.
I especially like the bit where he tells them of the 'tremendous' support they have at home, despite polls showing 60% of Americans disapprove of his handling of the Iraq situation.
When in danger, when in doubt, blow smoke, and say the fire's out.

Man, I hate that guy. The only interuption in the indifferent deceit is the refreshing sting of incompetence.
Is it better or worse that it seems to be a sea of self-deception as well?
I was doing the old "compare and contrast" with today (Iraq) vs. yesterday (Vietnam) and I did manage to extract one bit of bright news:
At least this time around folks have a great deal of sympathy for the American soldiers fighting the war.
Nice to see our society evolving, if not as much as I'd like it to.
I do appreciate that the soldiers they selected (at random, no doubt) represented the great diversity of the U.S. Army: one woman, one black man, and eight white guys.
(It reminds me of a line from a David Cross routine: "I opposed the war from the beginning, but I support our white troops.")
