Cancel weekend boating plans

Any plans to go boating in the Barren Islands or Kamishak Bay this weekend should probably be deferred. The marine forecast, reprinted below, predicts fast moving flows of hot debris. And six foot seas with freezing spray. Otherwise, might make for a nice outing.

The prospect that this might continue for months is an increasinly bleak one.

I think the local evening newscasts need a blasé weather announcer, ala Red Dwarf's Holly, to say something like, "Eruption. Eruption. There's an eruption going on....it's still going on."

It's impressive how daunting it is to face the waves and winds even without the explosions, lava and pyroclastic flows, or the deadly classic rock Sirens on Augustine that lure fishermen to the their deaths with the irrestible strains of "Barracuda" on the stereo and haunting visions of a wet T-shirt contest at Koots.
