The ultimate coffee marker?
I have long sought the ultimate coffee maker, even going so far as to consider making my own.
These, however, do come close to my ideal.
Still, I keep searching for an automatic device that could follow Julia Child's "recipe" for good coffee:
- Prepare coffee maker (which must have the automatic shut-off when the pot is removed)
- Start coffee maker with pot removed
- Let hot water fill filter
- Turn off before filter overflows
- Let sit 5 minutes
- Turn back on
- Replace pot and wait for remainder of coffee brew
It seems to me this sequence could be handled automajically.
Well, I'm off to browse the Grainger catalog for electrically activated hydraulic switches & micro controllers.

The coffee maker currently top-rated by Consumer Reports is the Braun Aromaster KF400, which you can find for $20 online. Just buy two of these, and keep the second one for spare parts.
