I like the part about the merciless rivers, and such.
I thought the core point of this passage - that Alaska is a land of extremes, untamed, where nature wins - was actually valid. Alaska's natural beauty is remarkable, and remarkably violent and unforgiving.
I think, however, that the original version would have been a little more persuasive had it not been delivered by someone wearing high heels and makeup.
