I have no doubt that an artificial model brain can eventually be created, although all evidence suggests that the problem is vastly underestimated. We will have to be extremely clear on the distinction between a model of consciousness and actual consciousness.
I'm worried about the disingenuous sounding reasons for the project: they're not building it for treating mental illness. They're building because it's fascinating, and they want to be first, and they have funding sources. All fine reasons in isolation, but this isn't just any project. Perhaps they can take a moment to model "rationalization."
