I've often thought there was more crossover there than most folks recognized. c.f. John Doe
There were literally a dozen gutter-punkgrass, unamplified, neo-homeless pirate folk bands there, most of which were good, dirge like or Pogues-powered - Tom waits dreaming of a jug band.
