The Oracle Speaks

After a comprehensive statistical analysis, in which they evalute teams' perfomance after adjusting for strength of opposition and regression to the mean of random factors (such as fumble recoveries and third-down completion percentage), Football Outsiders forecasts the Seahawks' record for 2004 to be...a mediocre 8-8.

Even they don't believe the model, though - half their staff is picking Seattle to win the NFC West.

But as your friend, I suggest...tempering...expectations in light of this statistical work.

I stick by my prediction-Darryl Jackson drops the game winning ball in the endzone to knock the Seahawks out of their first playoff game.

Just for fun, I will predict that they will finish the season at 9-7.

To expect anything else would be folly. Here are some other predictions to be avoided:

Kerry's got it in the bag
The danger posed by North Korea is over-rated
The chances of an asteroid obliterating the earth are laughable
Hey, it looks like that goalie is gonna get a shutout!

The Seahawks Speak:

21-7, winning on the road in New Orleans. Defense held the Saints to 74 yards on the ground, and only let the Saints convert 3 third downs. Shawn Alexander had 3 touchdowns (but sprained his knee).

Great. I could not be happier. Nobody likes to see the Seahawks win more than I do. And as an added bonus, now they only have to win 8 more games to cover my regular-season prediction. That should be a cake-walk!
