This Decade is a Downer

This dark, nameless decade. When will it end?

I'm going to try my hardest to identify the good things about this decade:

1) The Lord of the Rings movies
2) HBO's Deadwood
3) The Daily Show and The Colbert Report
4) Seahawks win NFC Title.

What's sad is that I don't particularly like television or the movies, in general. Eisengeisters: help me remember why this time was worth it, or be prepared to give me a big, Eisengeist hug while I cry on your shoulders.

Damnation! Reagan died, Wikipedia began, the Red Sox won the World Series, and...I can't think of anything else.

Come on over for hugging and crying and a reading of "September 1939" by Wystan Hugh Auden which I shall post separately.

Okay, Wikipedia makes the list.

Dr. X posts this from a swing dance party to celebrate the launch of a hot new "Internet" company:

- Mythbusters
- Stewart and Colbert
- Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis
- Elliott Spitzer

Yeah...not a lot.

Things suck so badly globally that I've been forced to find my satisfactions in small things close to home. (Apart, from seconding the Stewart, Colbert, and Wikipedia nominations, of course.)

-My daughter has discovered a passion for soccer. The age division she's in this year (U10) is really exciting to watch.

-In the past four years, my wife's career has taken off, and taken off again in a big way.

-Our primary dog - the one you've met - survived a serious of medical emergencies and remains her obsequious, slightly over-anxious self.

-We all know Mark made Mayor here. Yes, occasionally this has served to point out the compromises even decent people must make to stay in office. But at least some decent people have a role in running the place.
