Dr X, Are You Still Alive?

I'm a little worried about you since I would have expected to read your eulogy by now...

Dr. X posts this from the LOTS (Low-Overhead Time Sharing) system at Stanford University:

"Too bad, he was still an average quarterback.

"Sorry about my recent reticence. Apart from the usual busy-ness, Laptop #1 blew its hard drive, Laptop #2 has some sort of problem with its 'Microsoft' 'Operating System', which I would be very upset about if I had paid for it.

"The story of laptop #3 is so sad I can barely relate it. I bought it 3 weeks ago - a lovely and compact Sony Vaio so small and light I could even work on it from the middle seat of coach class of a Northwest Airlines jet, jammed between two elephantine Minnesotans who reeked of herring.

"Anyway, the two year old hit it with a baseball bat.

"So I am posting this from a Franklin Ace portable electronic dictionary that is hacked into the PDP-11 they use at Stanford to keep track of the names of the alumnae who are not rich."
