Why Geithner should go
If it were, at this point in history, acceptable to have a Secretary of the Treasury whose claim to represent the best interests of the United States (rather than just Wall Street) hinge on plausible deniability, then Geithner would be acceptable. So would Hank Paulson, really.
We need somebody better, just at the moment.

I keep rolling the dice and it keeps coming up "Krugman."
Or perhaps Dr. Kapital. But I wouldn't wish such a thing on a friend.
I really think Krugman is too valuable as a truth-teller to be wasted in government. If he were the Secretary of the Treasury, to whom would we turn to find out what's really going on?
From a post on 9/23/08...
"I’ve been pointing out that the dictatorial powers Paulson has sought would accrue to the next Treasury secretary, who might well be Phil Gramm. I’ve been trying to come up with a liberal-leaning name who might seem equally horrifying to Republicans, and the only one I’ve come up with is … me."

If I owned stock in Adult Diapers for Republicans, I would push for Robert Reich
