This doesn't look like anything I remember in Anchorage. But I'm not often in Mountain View, for some reason.

Perhaps this is a peninsula in California? I learned that Robbin La Vine grew up somewhere in Northern CA, and she made something of a play house of an abandoned Quonset nearby.

San Francisco sits at the top of the Peninsula, San Jose is the base. In between you have every large organization that really matters - Intel, Google, Apple, Genentech, Facebook and Stanford University.

In downtown Palo Alto, office space is more expensive than in downtown Tokyo.

And yet, if you know where to look, now and then you can find a quonset hut.

It reminds me of home, and also reminds me that we're not quite as rich and important down here as we sometimes pretend to be.

I'll bet the Peninsula is still much richer than the whole Anchorage Hillside (before the blazing holocaust).

Yes, I do recall "playing" in a Quonset hut across the street from my old home on Morro Ave. It was a pretty humble structure compared to the posted photos. I must have been around 8 or 9? But I haven't told that story in years! Can I inquire into the identity of the Undersecretary?
