Despite the increased gayness (I'm allowed to use this term because the new version of Pirates has a fundamentally happier and lighter feel than the original. Hence it is more gay and lighthearted) I recommend it.
I've learned more of the ins and outs of the game and the more I discover, the more I like.
Once you learn how to play the various Jesuit Missions (aka: The Brothers) into buying you some amnesty in the ongoing alliances and backstabbing between the various powers (aka: Turf wars) the more you can play all sides and make some serious cash screwing everyone over.
The more I play it, the more it feels like Grand Theft Sloop: Santa DomingoDespite the gayness.
