Speaking of hard-boiled detectives.

This could be either really good, or really, really bad.

The director has some credibility with me as he directed the very fun "Spy Kids" movies. Along with, El Mariachi, the remake, From Dusk 'til Dawn, etc. So he's a winner in the "If nothing else, it was fun" category.

And The cast looks reasonably competent as well.

Fingers crossed that it won't suck.

Certainly worth renting. Possibly worth the trip the the cineplex if the reviews break the right way.

There's a slight, but non-zero probability that it won't reward the venture beyond the bitter satisfaction that comes from knowing the gamble was worthwhile.

From the preview, it looks awesome. Great cast, and true to the Frank Miller Look and Feel(tm).

This has something to do with Frank 'Dark Knight' Miller? That explains the makeup effects.

While any film can have a great trailer, if the story is Miller's, it looks very good.

About 10 or so years ago Frank Miller turned his back on the superhero comic world and published a series of comics in the grand tradition of Hard-Boiled detective stories, but mixed in with some of the kinematic elements of comic books.

Bad Guys, Good(ish) guys, gorgeous dames. All in black and white with a few carefully chosen dashes of primary color.
