Peripheral Businesses

Dr X. posts this from an offshore platform:

"You know, being right on the edge of America, without being quite in it, can be very good business. The crazy-like-a-fox Doctor Brinkley got very rich (for awhile) broadcasting into the U.S. from Mexico. And if you look into the history of Latouche's Georgian Hotel (an old favorite of mine), you'll see mention of 'large casino barges' in Santa Monica Bay.

"If ever there were a sure-fire money-maker, surely a large casino barge would be it."

I tried that in the 70s, but a resentful, coked-up craps dealer started a fire and sank it in Lake Michigan.
