The Final McCain Stunt - a prediction
Here's a prediction. McCain campaign look over the last 2 months prior to the election and take note on McCain's strongest week. It was the week when he introduced Sarah Palin as VP choice.
Then the economy continues to thrash. Palin is total FAIL (or no show) during the VP convention. Republicans begin demanding a replacement for Palin. One week before we go to vote McCain drops a whopper.
Due to the extremely dire economic situation, John McCain has decided to put Country First once again, and after discussing it over with his brilliant running mate he takes Palin, in a mutually agreed decision, off the ticket and brings in some economic "mastermind" - maybe even Mittens. But more likely an unknown. On election day everyone is abuzz about the Wall Street gain of 500 points in the prior week on McCain's maverick move and have forgotten the debates and Sarah Palin. McCain wins.

The new VP candidate will be afrom "downtown".
Because of McCain's ego, rather than admit he made a huge mistake, I expect the opposite- he'll double down on Caribou Barbie, sending her to every fundamentalist forum with a canned speech for the rest of the campaign.
Or, at the last minute, he'll replace her -with a set of steak knives.
I stick by my previous post on the subject: people become more risk-averse the closer the election gets. McCain might still win, but his best winning strategy is no longer an option. (That is, being perceived as the less-risky choice.)
I'll go with "McCain desperately tries to get traction with House Republican bail out plan, just to foster impression he's in command"
By the way, he'll do this even if it takes months and fucks the economy.
After the Palin debacle, I've realized he's ready to throw America under the bus, if it means winning.
