You lived large - well done sir.
Fools swear they wise, wise men know they foolish
First a fine WWII pilot, then a fine war photojournalist.

I was just speaking with a WWII bomber pilot, very genial, healthy old fellow, 25 missions, and more impressively, 12 years in the Peace Corps. More on that later, but I noticed Spencer's mentioning the beauty of the Spitfire (note he'd transferred in from P-51s, no shabby flier itself). I've rarely talked to a pilot who didn't mention the beauty, or lack thereof, of their aircraft.
The phenomenon of Beauty in the middle of war may clarify what it really is, among things, amidst people.
I know my interest in WW II started and ends with the P-51 (and I don't care if it's a pig in Air Warrior).
This scene would not be the same, with, well, any other plane. The P-51 was righteous.
