Speaking of Seaplanes and Avengers
The next time we are all together in SF we MUST do a field trip to the USS Hornet. They've got some cool old planes sitting on the flight deck, some in good shape, some half-wrecked.
Other activities are possible, too.

This is an excellent plan.
I went and did that about 5 years ago and it was a more than excellent field trip.
Alas I was distracted by the most beautifual woman in the world who worked there as a guide, so in all fairness I should go back and see it all again.
Alas, it should be mentioned that this Hornet replaced the original Hornet (of Doolittle raid fame, sunk at the final battle of Guadalcanal) but it has a WW2 pedigree and that's what counts.
Realize people actually landed airplanes on something like this.
Then realize people once took off in b-25s from a deck the same size and be really impressed.
Great stuff.
Last time I was there they were restoring an old TBM torpedo bomber.
As for the dancing... Ehn. I'll be busy getting greasy climbing on the TBM...
My father took a P-40 off from the deck of the USS Ranger. He says it wasn't fun. But what was fun was the fact that he had engine trouble in Africa and got to fly solo across Northern Africa and on to India after his engine was replaced. His memoirs "Travels in a P-40 and a Touch of War" recount the trip.
